Coimbatore: The police have seized Rs 64 lakh stolen in the ATM robbery, along with the car and container truck used in the crime by the suspects who were arrested in the ATM robbery gang in Namakkal. They have been remanded after being presented at the Kumarapalayam court. The police confirmed that four teams have been assigned under the supervision of the Namakkal SP for the investigation. 

On Friday morning, while attempting to escape with money after robbing three ATMs in Thrissur, the police bravely apprehended Jamaludeen (37), Asar Ali (30), Irfan (32), Sabir Khan (26), Mubarak (18), S Shaukeen (21) and Muhammad Ikram (42) from the Palwal and Nuh districts of Haryana. During a confrontation with the police, truck driver Jamaludeen was shot and killed. Another suspect, Asar Ali, was shot in both legs and is currently undergoing treatment at Coimbatore Medical College Hospital. The remaining five suspects were also arrested and taken to the Veppadai Police Station.

The police teams from Kerala, Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh interrogated the suspects in detail on Friday evening and Saturday morning. After a medical examination, they were presented in court.

One of the investigative teams will travel to Haryana, the suspects’ home state, to gather evidence. The other three teams will continue their inquiries in Namakkal. An investigation into the assault on police officials will be conducted separately. Cases have been filed against the five arrested individuals under four different sections.

Family members of the deceased Jamaludeen arrived in Namakkal on Saturday morning. His body, kept at the Sankagiri Government Hospital, was handed over to his relatives after a post-mortem examination.

The state government has initiated a magistrate-level inquiry into the police encounter resulting in death. The appointed magistrate is gathering statements from the suspects and injured police officers.
