Ernakulam: The Ernakulam Principal Sessions Court on Monday acquitted actor Dileep and three other accused in the high-profile assault case, citing the prosecution’s inability to prove the charge of criminal conspiracy. Former head of the investigation team B. Sandhya clarified, however, that this is not the final verdict and the matter could still be examined by higher courts. She added that proving criminal conspiracy is always a challenging task.

“The investigation team did an excellent job and deserves appreciation. The rotating prosecutors also performed well. This single case has brought many positive changes to Kerala’s film industry. Until the final verdict, the investigation team will remain active alongside the survivor. The trial involved numerous challenges, and both the prosecution and investigation team will continue to fight for justice in the High Court,” B. Sandhya said.

The court found six accused, including Sunil N.S., alias Pulsar Suni, Martin Antony, Manikandan B, Vijeesh V.P., Salim H alias Vadival Salim, and Pradeep, guilty. The sentencing will be announced on Friday. Charges against the accused include gang rape, outraging the modesty of a woman, criminal conspiracy, and abduction.

Alongside Dileep, Charly Thomas, Sanil Kumar alias Mesthri Sanil, and Sarath G. Nair were acquitted. The verdict was delivered by Ernakulam Principal District and Sessions Judge Honey M. Varghese after an eight-year-long wait.
