New Delhi: Two people have been arrested after a woman student and her friend were allegedly followed, abused and nearly dragged into a car in Delhi, police said.

The woman, a first-year Master's student at Hindu College, recounted the incident in a video posted on Instagram, alleging that the men harassed them while they were walking near Mukherjee Nagar.

According to the student, the incident occurred around 9.30 pm on Wednesday when she and her friend were returning after visiting Vijaynagar Haqiqat Park. A group of men travelling in a white Tata Safari allegedly approached them and passed comments.

"When we told them not to misbehave and to leave, they began abusing us," she said in the video.

The men allegedly continued to follow the two women as they walked. A few minutes later, when the students stopped to record the incident, the men allegedly approached them and tried to pull them into the vehicle.

"When my friend took out the phone, they ran away from there," she said.

The student alleged that they initially approached the Maurice Nagar Police Station to lodge a complaint but were told that the area where the incident took place did not fall under its jurisdiction.

In the video, she also claimed that they had to visit multiple police stations before a case was registered.

"I have visited 3 police stations in the last 4-5 hours. But they are not even writing an FIR...For the last 4 hours, my friends and I have been standing here. But even after that, they have not taken any action. They do not care that I am standing here in the middle of the night," she claimed.

A case was eventually registered at the Mukherjee Nagar Police Station based on the student's complaint, following which two people were arrested.

During the investigation, police traced the car, bearing registration number DL11CF4447, to its driver, identified as Naman Anil Kumar. He was allegedly accompanied by two to three other people in the vehicle at the time of the incident.

The student claimed in the video that the accused was a student of the Faculty of Law. Further investigation is underway, officials said.

The incident came barely days after a woman biker in Gurugram claimed that a car chased her before hitting her motorcycle and fleeing the scene. The collision threw her off the bike, while the motorcycle was dragged several metres along the road. 

The rider, who identifies herself as Sia and runs the Instagram page ‘rebelwheels_sia_’, shared footage of the incident online. It later emerged that the accused men, driving the car, had allegedly harassed the woman prior to the incident.
