Munnar: In a shocking turn of events in Mankulam, Bibin (36) has been arrested by the police for the alleged murder of his father, Parekudi Thankachan Ayyappan (58).

The charred body was found by locals on Monday evening in Mankulam, although investigations reveal the crime occurred the previous evening. According to police reports, Bibin came home with his girlfriend, confronted his father demanding money for their marriage. A heated argument ensued when Ayyappan refused money.

In a moment of rage, Bibin struck his father with a bill hook, then proceeded to set him on fire after covering him with a plastic sheet, believing him to be dead. Both father and son resided in a house near Mankulam 6th mile, 33.

Following the incident, Bibin fled. However, after police inquiries, they came to know that he was a regular drinker and used to fight with his father which turned the investigation towards him. Munnar Station House Officer Rajan K Aramana headed the operation to arrest Bibin in Mankulam town, where he admitted his involvement in the crime.

Fingerprint experts collected forensic evidence from the scene, and the body was shifted to the medical college for post-mortem examination after inquest proceedings. The accused will be produced in court on Wednesday.
