A late-night robbery in Bihar’s Sitamarhi triggered panic after masked assailants looted cash and jewellery and hurled crude bombs to scare residents attempting to intervene.
Patna: Panic gripped Bihar’s Sitamarhi district after a group of heavily armed robbers stormed a residence in the early hours of Saturday, making away with cash and jewellery. The assailants allegedly detonated crude bombs to frighten residents who attempted to intervene.
The incident occurred at the home of Rama Shankar Gupta in Kanhauli Bazaar, which falls under the Kanhauli Police Station limits. According to officials, the break-in took place at approximately 12.50 am

Police said around 15 masked men, armed with country-made pistols (‘Katta’), crude explosives, axes, iron rods, and batons, forcibly entered the house.
The robbers reportedly assaulted Gupta, held him at gunpoint, and compelled him to hand over keys to a Godrej cupboard and other almirahs before looting valuables.
At the time of the robbery, Gupta’s wife was reportedly ill. His son, Shatrughan Gupta, had stepped out to purchase medicines. On returning home, Shatrughan was allegedly intercepted by the intruders near the entrance.
In the chaos, Shatrughan Gupta and his brother, Laxman Gupta, managed to escape and raised an alarm. As neighbours and bystanders rushed to help, the criminals allegedly hurled multiple bombs to deter them.
Watchmen Sikandar Rai, Indal Raut and Ram Chandra Rai were also targeted with explosives, though none of them sustained injuries, police sources said.
Confirming the episode, the Station House Officer (SHO) of Kanhauli Police Station stated that two individuals were injured during the robbery. They were taken to a primary health centre, and their condition is said to be stable and out of danger.
Following the alert, police teams quickly arrived at the location. Senior officers, including the Superintendent of Police (SP) and Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), later visited the crime scene.
Investigators are currently analysing CCTV footage from the vicinity to identify those involved. A case has been registered at Kanhauli Police Station under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
Authorities have launched a manhunt, with efforts underway to trace and arrest the masked robbers.
