Kochi: As part of operation 'Palm Tree', the police arrested a scrap trader for evading approximately Rs 12 Crore tax.
The accused, identified as Usman of Ongallur in Pattambi, is the owner of 'Sain Traders', a scrap trading firm.
It was found that he evaded an input tax of Rs 12 Crore from his establishment.
On Thursday morning, the GST and Intelligence joint team searched his house in Pattambi, where fake GST documents and transaction details were found.
Following this, he was arrested and taken to Kochi for interrogation. After a medical examination at the General Hospital, he was produced before the magistrate.
The arrest was made as part of the Operation Palm Tree, initiated by the State GST Department to prevent tax evasion.
