Thiruvananthapuram: In the third rape case against MLA Rahul Mamkootathil, the survivor’s confidential testimony has been recorded by the court. The Thiruvalla Magistrate’s Court conducted the proceedings via video conferencing, allowing the survivor, who is currently overseas, to provide her statement from the Indian embassy.

The court followed High Court guidelines to complete all formalities for recording testimony via video conferencing. Previously, the investigative team had also recorded the survivor’s statement remotely, and her court testimony reportedly matched the earlier statement.

Mamkootathil was arrested on January 11 in connection with this third rape case. Police took him into custody from a hotel in Palakkad during the early hours of the morning.

The complaint alleged that Mamkootathil raped the survivor in a hotel room during their initial encounter. It further claims he slapped her on the face and physically assaulted her, and coerced her to become pregnant, later claiming that the pregnancy was not his — effectively denying responsibility. The survivor also alleged that he forced her to undergo an abortion and threatened her and family if she reported the matter.

In addition, the survivor accused Mamkootathil of financial exploitation, claiming he compelled her to buy expensive shoes, clothing, and cosmetic products.

The court will proceed with further hearings based on the recorded testimonies.
