Kozhikode: In yet another twist in the Pantheerankavu domestic violence case, accused Rahul P Gopal has filed a petition at the Kerala High Court seeking to quash the case filed against him. To reinforce his plea, the accused cited the recent affidavit filed by the alleged ‘victim’ in the case. In the petition, Rahul stated that he and his wife have sorted out the issues and said that they are planning to continue their marital life. The court will consider the petition later today.
Last week, Rahul’s wife, the alleged victim in the case, backtracked from her earlier statements, and said that what she had told the police and media in the beginning were all untrue. In a ‘çonfession’ on her YouTube channel, the woman declared that she had levelled false accusations against her husband after succumbing to the pressure exerted by her parents.
"I feel guilty having said all those things against Rahul. From the very beginning, I had told my parents and relatives that I am not interested in lying. But they forced me to do so. The allegations of torture in the name of dowry and grevious physical assaults on me inflicted by my husband all untrue. My parents had threatened to commit suicide if I refused to oblige to their demands. This is exactly how the things unfolded," said the victim, backtracking from her previous statements.
Through her own YouTube channel, the victim said, "I already knew Rahul was married. But decided to remain silent fearing it would make my parents call off our marriage."
"Rahul had asked me to wait until his divorce formalities were completed. But I am the one who told him to go ahead with our marriage. The allegation that he demanded 150 sovereigns of gold and a car from my parents is untrue. In fact, Rahul had borne a major chunk of the marriage expenditures. My husband had beaten me on two occasions. I am not denying that. But we have resolved those issues now. Once, while at Rahul’s home, I slipped in the bathroom, that’s how I had sustained those injuries,” said the victim in the video confession.
The drastic turn of events in the case has left the investigating officers perplexed.
