A lorry driver helped a spa worker escape alleged attackers during a dramatic night chase.

‘Please don’t stop.’ Those were the unspoken words behind a young woman’s desperate bid for safety on a dark Kerala road, and a lorry driver’s decision that may have saved her from a far worse ordeal.
In a disturbing incident near Muvattupuzha in Ernakulam district, a 25-year-old woman escaped an alleged sexual assault attempt after a migrant worker driving a tipper lorry helped her flee from a group of men who had allegedly been pursuing her late at night.
According to police, the woman, who works at a spa, was returning home after work during the intervening night of June 14 and 15 when five young men on motorcycles allegedly began following her.
Investigators said the group verbally abused her, attempted to sexually assault her and even tried to knock her down with their motorcycles when she attempted to get away.
As the situation escalated, a passerby came to her aid and helped her stop a passing tipper lorry. The woman quickly climbed aboard, hoping to escape the men chasing her.
What followed was a tense pursuit that stretched for several kilometres. Police said the accused continued to follow the vehicle, shouting abuses and allegedly threatening the driver to stop.
Despite the intimidation, the driver kept moving, refusing to hand the woman over or leave her stranded.
The chase ended only when the suspects spotted police personnel responding to the woman’s emergency call. The men then fled the scene, police said.
Television visuals later showed two motorcycles tailing the lorry at high speed while the occupants shouted threats at the driver.
The footage has since drawn widespread attention, with many praising the driver’s courage and presence of mind.
Police launched an investigation and subsequently arrested all five accused, aged between 19 and 20. The men were remanded to judicial custody on Tuesday.
While the incident has once again highlighted concerns over women’s safety during late-night travel, it has also drawn attention to the actions of ordinary citizens who choose to intervene when someone is in danger.
For one young woman on a frightening night, a stranger behind the wheel chose not to look away: And that decision made all the difference.
