
Kollam (Kerala): A man was arrested for allegedly sexually assaulting a mentally challenged woman at her residence here on Friday.
The accused, identified as Yesudasan, a resident of Sakthikulangara, was caught by locals and handed over to the police.
The incident happened around 1 am when Yesudasan forcefully entered the home of a 41-year-old woman and attempted to sexually assault her. Hearing the woman's screams, her relatives and nearby residents rushed to the house and apprehended the accused.
The woman sustained injuries during the assault and was admitted to the hospital for medical treatment. According to media reports, Yesudasan is a fisherman. He reportedly targeted the house after learning that the woman lived with only her elderly parents.
The Sakthikulangara police have registered a case against him under various charges, including sexual assault. The authorities revealed that he is also accused in a case registered under the Anchalummoodu police station limits for allegedly inflicting burn injuries on a child.
