Kozhikode: On January 6, 2001, Kerala was rocked by a brutal family murder in Aluva. Six members of the Manjooran family were killed at the home of Manjooran Agustya (47), who owned Manjooran Hardwares on Aluva Railway Station Road. The victims included Agustya, his wife Baby (42), their children Jemon (14) and Divya (12), as well as Agustya's mother Clara (74) and sister Kochu Rani (42).

The murder was committed by Antony, a relative of Agustya and a regular visitor to their house. An arrow was also drawn on a nearby wall with blood. The accused Antony was a temporary driver in the municipality. He lived with his family on Vatican Street, Syrian Church Road, Aluva. He had been offered a job abroad. Kochu Rani had offered him money for the expenses, but did not give it. The investigation officers found that the reason for the massacre was a feud related to this.

On the day of the incident, Antony reached Agustyan's house at around 9 pm. While talking to his family, Agustyan, his wife and children went to watch a second show at a nearby theater. After they left, Antony asked Kochu Rani for money. When she said no, an argument broke out. In the meantime, he took out a knife and stabbed Kochu Rani to death. He also killed Clara, who went to stop him. Fearing that the incident would come to light if other family members arrived, Antony stayed at home waiting for them.

When Agustyan and his family returned from the movie at around 12 pm, he killed them too. After the incident, Antony went to Dammam via Mumbai. After being found guilty, he was summoned and arrested by the police on February 18. Following a CBI investigation, Antony was found guilty. On February 2, 2005, the CBI court sentenced him to death. In 2014, the Supreme Court's ruling that the appeals against the death penalty should be heard through an open court saved Antony from the gallows. On December 11, 2018, Antony's death sentence was commuted to life imprisonment. Antony was released from prison a few years ago.

Chenthamara, who was released on bail in the Nenmara murder case last month, committed the double murder 24 years after the Aluva massacre. Sudhakaran (56) and his mother Lakshmi (75) were hacked to death by their neighbor Chenthamara in Nenmara. 

In 2019, Sudhakaran's wife Sajitha was also hacked to death by Chenthamara. After being released on bail in the case of Sajitha's murder, Chenthamara killed two more members of the same family. Chenthamara believed that Sajitha and Sudhakaran were the reason for his wife's estrangement and the collapse of the family. This was the reason for the murder.

Before the shock of the incident could subside, another mass murder has now taken place in Venjaramoodu, shocking Kerala in three separate incidents in a single day. 

Six people, including close relatives, were brutally attacked of which five of them are dead. The mother is in a critical condition. The youth went to the Venjaramoodu police station to say that he had committed the murders. 

Arfan had stated that he killed three people in Perumala, two in Chullalam and one in Pangot. The body of the young man's grandmother Salma Beevi (88) was found in the house in Pangot. His 13-year-old brother Afsan and the girl Fasana were also found murdered. His mother Shemi is in the hospital with serious injuries. His father's elder brother Latif and Shahida were also found murdered.
