Kolkata: A 30-year-old man was fatally stabbed in West Bengal’s South 24 Parganas district following a dispute with a neighbour over the playing of music at a Kali Puja pandal, police said on Thursday.
The victim, identified as Santan Naskar, was attacked near his home in Sonarpur after he turned off the sound system at the pandal at the request of an elderly neighbour who was reportedly suffering from a heart condition.
According to police, as Naskar returned home, another neighbour and his wife confronted him, demanding to know why he had stopped the music. A heated argument ensued, during which the couple allegedly assaulted Naskar’s mother.
Citing the complaint filed by the victim’s family, a senior police officer said that when Naskar intervened to protect his mother, the male neighbour allegedly stabbed him multiple times before fleeing the scene with his wife.
Naskar was rushed to a nearby hospital, where doctors declared him dead on arrival.
The accused has been arrested. Police are reportedly on the lookout for Pintu’s relatives.
