Kottarakkara (Kollam): Kerala police have arrested a man for stealing a car used by film actor Anusree.
According to police, the accused, identified as Prabin (29), hailing from Thennoor, Nedumangad, is a history-sheeter and is accused of multiple vehicle thefts across the state.
Anusree's car was stolen on Saturday around midnight from a Pay and Park in Inchakkadu, Kollam. The suspect replaced its number plate with one stolen from a vehicle parked outside a workshop in Kadakkal. Driving the stolen car, Prabin reached Vellayambalam, Thiruvananthapuram, where he broke into a rubber trading establishment, stealing over 500 kg of rubber and Rs 7,000 in cash.
The next day, Prabin drove to Perinadu, Pathanamthitta, where he robbed over 400 kg of rubber sheets from another rubber trading facility. He then sold the stolen rubber at Ponkunnam. On his way to Kozhikode to meet a friend, his car crashed into another vehicle near Pala. Mistaking the other vehicle to be a police car, he abandoned the stolen car in a secluded area and fled to Thiruvananthapuram by bus.
Later, while travelling to Kozhikode on a bike, Prabin was caught by Kottarakkara police on Tuesday night.
According to police, Prabin has been involved in similar thefts in multiple locations. In 2023, he was arrested for stealing a car from Kallambalam but was released from jail in July. The police revealed that he stole cars from Nedumangad in August, committed a burglary at a paint shop in Kuzhalmannam, Palakkad, and stole vehicles from used car showrooms in Alathur, Kasaragod, and Shoranur.
The police confirmed Prabin’s involvement in eight theft cases using CCTV footage and phone records. A special investigation team, led by Kottarakkara Inspector S. Jayakrishnan and including Sub-Inspectors A.R. Abhilash, Rajneesh, Vasudevan, Rajan, and other officers, apprehended the suspect within two days.
