Pune: A local court on Friday remanded Siya Goyal and her alleged partner Chetan Chaudhary in 14-day judicial custody for the murder of 25-year-old Pune realtor Ketan Agarwal.

Goyal (20) and Chaudhary (22) face charges for allegedly pushing Agarwal off a cliff at Lohagad Fort in Pune district on June 18. The victim and Goyal were engaged to be married this November.

Following the expiration of their police remand, both suspects were produced before Judicial Magistrate First Class A M Vibhute.

The prosecution requested a three-day extension of their police custody, stating that data retrieved from the mobile phones of both Goyal and Chaudhary included chats written in signs and coded language. Investigating authorities argued that further custodial interrogation was required to decode these conversations.

Conversely, the defense counsel representing Goyal and Chaudhary contested the extension, arguing that the police had already received ample time for their probe and that additional custodial interrogation was unnecessary.

Upon hearing the arguments from both sides, the court denied the prosecution's request for an extension and placed the accused in judicial custody until July 16.
