Thiruvananthapuram: A police officer has been booked for allegedly attempting to fraudulently claim insurance using forged documents. The Vattappara police registered the case against Pothencode native Sha following a directive from the Rural Superintendent of Police (SP).

Sha, who served as an Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) at the Vattappara station in 2019, is currently a Grade Sub-Inspector (SI) in Pathanamthitta. He is also a district office-bearer of the Kerala Police Officers’ Association.

Fake accident case and forged documents
The alleged fraud dates back to 2019 when a fabricated accident case was reportedly registered under the number 161/19. Documents with a forged signature of the Station House Officer (SHO) were then submitted to the court.

The deception was uncovered during an investigation by New India Assurance Company, which confirmed that the accident never occurred. Following this, the insurance company lodged a complaint with the Rural SP, leading to the registration of the case against Sha.
