Kalkaji Temple gang-rape case: One accused posing as policeman held after exchange of fire

One of the accused in the alleged gang-rape of a 17-year-old girl near Delhi’s Kalkaji Temple has been apprehended after a brief exchange of fire with police, Delhi Police said. Efforts are underway to trace the other two accused in the case.

The development comes hours after the teenager allegedly told police that three men posing as policemen had threatened her and her 17-year-old male friend before allegedly sexually assaulting her in a park near Kalkaji Mandir.

Police have launched a further investigation into the case.

According to the complaint, the girl, a Delhi resident, had gone to Kalkaji Temple with her male friend at around 7 pm on Monday. After offering prayers, the two went to a park near the temple at around 7.30 pm.

Police said three men, believed to be around 25 to 30 years old, approached the two and allegedly claimed to be policemen. They allegedly threatened the teenager and her friend, following which the girl was allegedly gang-raped.

A PCR call reporting the alleged incident was received at around 8.45 pm. The park is located between Kalkaji Mandir and the ISKCON Temple. A police team reached the spot after receiving the call, and the girl was taken for medical examination.

Following the complaint, Delhi Police began checking CCTV footage from the park and surrounding areas to identify the suspects and establish the sequence of events. Investigators were also seeking information from people who may have been present in or around the park when the alleged incident took place.

A case has been registered under relevant provisions of law, including the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.

Delhi Police said further investigation is underway.
