A 31-year-old man has been arrested in Bengaluru for allegedly raping a 26-year-old woman from Jaipur after meeting her at a pub in the city's Koramangala area, police said on Thursday.
The incident allegedly took place on October 28, when the woman, who was visiting Bengaluru on vacation, went to a pub in Koramangala. The accused, identified as Sameer M V, a second-hand car dealer, allegedly approached her after she asked him for a lighter to light her cigarette.
According to police, the two struck up a conversation and later exchanged phone numbers. Sameer subsequently invited the woman to a hotel room in Madiwala, where they consumed alcohol.
Police alleged that the man sexually assaulted the woman despite her resistance. She managed to escape from the hotel room and approached the Madiwala police, who registered a case under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
The accused was arrested following the complaint and has been sent to judicial custody, police said.
