Hyderabad: What began as an Instagram interaction between two civil service aspirants has culminated in the arrest of a trainee IPS officer, with police alleging a pattern of sexual assault, harassment, intimidation and cyber offences that continued even after the woman ended the relationship and married someone else.

M Uday Krishna Reddy, a 2025-batch IPS officer trainee, was arrested by Hyderabad Police on Tuesday and produced before the First Class Additional Judicial Magistrate of Ranga Reddy district at Rajendranagar.

The court remanded him to 14 days of judicial custody, following which he was shifted to Chanchalguda Central Jail.

According to the Hyderabad Police, Reddy, who had earlier served as a police constable in Andhra Pradesh before clearing the UPSC Civil Services Examination, has been undergoing training at the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel National Police Academy (SVPNPA) since December 2025.

Investigators said the accused first came in contact with the complainant, who is also a trainee IPS officer, through Instagram in mid-2025 after she responded to a post about his journey to joining the Indian Police Service. Their conversations reportedly developed into a relationship after the two exchanged contact details.

However, police said the relationship gradually turned abusive. In a statement, Hyderabad Deputy Commissioner of Police (Rajendranagar Zone) S Srinivas alleged that the accused frequently engaged in emotional manipulation, displayed possessive behaviour and repeatedly threatened to die by suicide during arguments. He is also accused of displaying weapons, insulting the complainant, demanding multiple relationships, damaging her laptop and repeatedly harassing her.

Police further alleged that after the woman ended the relationship and later married another person, Reddy continued to pursue her by creating fake social media accounts after being blocked, threatening to release private conversations and contacting her family members and colleagues without her consent.

'With this unbearable attitude, the victim broke up her relationship with the accused, and married another person. On knowing this, the accused person started creating fake social media accounts after being blocked, threatening to release private chats, and contacting her family and colleagues without her consent,' the DCP said.

Based on the woman's complaint, Attapur Police registered a case under Sections 64(1) read with 63(b)(iii), 109, 74, 75, 77, 78, 79, 127(2), 115(2) and 351(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, along with Sections 66E and 67A of the Information Technology Act.

Police said the investigation found prima facie evidence of the accused's involvement in the offences alleged by the complainant and other witnesses. He was taken into custody near Aramghar X Roads in Hyderabad on July 28.

Officials said the investigation is continuing to establish the complete sequence of events and that further legal action will be taken in accordance with the law.
