Beautician Nikki Bhati was allegedly set on fire by her husband after a dispute over social media & parlour reopening. National outrage sparks #JusticeForNikki.

Greater Noida: What began as a disagreement over social media activity and a beauty parlour turned into a horrifying case of dowry-related domestic violence. Nikki Bhati, a content creator and beautician from Kasna, was allegedly set ablaze by her husband, Vipin Bhati, after a dispute about her desire to post reels on Instagram and reopen a beauty parlour. The brutal incident has now sparked national outrage.
As reported by Hindustan Times, police investigations revealed that on August 21, Nikki told her husband she planned to restart her beauty parlour with her sister. Vipin allegedly objected, claiming such actions were not accepted in their household.

The argument quickly escalated into physical violence. Vipin is accused of pouring a flammable substance (thinner) on Nikki and setting her on fire, causing injuries that led to her death later that day.
Who was Nikki Bhati?
Nikki was a trained beautician who co-ran a successful beauty parlour with her sister Kanchan Bhati under the brand “Makeover by Kannchan.” The sisters were also active on social media, sharing makeup tutorials and client transformations.
Nikki’s family alleges a long history of abuse and dowry harassment. Her brother Rohit Gurjar said Nikki had returned home multiple times since her marriage in December 2016 due to escalating dowry demands, including requests for luxury cars.
Despite investing ₹8 lakh in the sisters’ parlour, the in-laws reportedly destroyed the parlour in February and consistently opposed the women working or earning independently.
Three videos caught on camera:
Several videos were recorded, allegedly by Nikki’s sister, Kanchan, for evidence. In one video a man was seen pouring flammable liquid on Nikki. Another captures Vipin violently assaulting her. A third shows Nikki engulfed in flames, running down the stairs.
Kanchan, who was also allegedly assaulted, provided these videos to authorities.
What did police say about the arrest and investigation?
Greater Noida ADCP Sudhir Kumar confirmed that Vipin attempted to escape custody during a police operation to recover the flammable substance used. He allegedly snatched a police pistol, leading to retaliatory fire in which he was shot in the leg and later hospitalised.
Vipin’s mother, Daya Bhati (55), was also arrested later on Sunday.
Police have booked Vipin Bhati (husband), Satyaveer Bhati (father-in-law), Daya Bhati (mother-in-law), Rohit Bhati (brother-in-law) under Section 103, Section 115(2), Section 61(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
What does Nikki’s family say?
Rohit Gurjar, Nikki’s brother, accused the in-laws of deliberate murder over dowry and oppression of the sisters’ financial independence. He stated that after the attack, Nikki’s father-in-law and sister, Kanchan, rushed her to several hospitals before taking her to Delhi’s Safdarjung Hospital, where she was declared dead.
He also alleged that the father-in-law fled from a moving vehicle after learning of Nikki’s death.
How is the public reacting?
The incident has sparked massive outrage on social media, where Nikki’s sister Kanchan and others launched a #JusticeForNikki campaign. With Kanchan’s own social media influence, the story has gained momentum, highlighting the pressures of patriarchy, dowry abuse, and gender-based violence.
Police say they are investigating all angles, including dowry-related harassment, domestic violence, and conspiracy. More arrests are likely as evidence continues to emerge.
