Wayanad: The death of a three-year-old boy during treatment for burn injuries has led to the arrest of his father and a traditional medical practitioner in Panamaram.
The accused, identified as Althaf and George, are residents of Anjukunnu.
Mohammad Afsan, aged three, suffered burns on June 9 after falling into a bucket of hot water. He initially received first-aid treatment at Mananthavady Medical College Hospital, where doctors recommended transferring him to Kozhikode Medical College Hospital for specialist care. However, his parents opted for discharge.
Later, the child was treated by traditional medical practitioner George for a week. When his condition deteriorated, he was eventually taken to Kozhikode Medical College Hospital. Sadly, Mohammad Afsan passed away on June 20 while undergoing treatment there.
A thorough police investigation revealed that instead of following medical advice to transfer the child to Kozhikode Medical College from Mananthavady, the parents chose traditional medicine treatment with Dr. George. Following this, both the child's father and the traditional medical practitioner have been arrested.
