New Delhi: The man accused of shooting a 24-year-old at a cafe in northeast Delhi’s Maujpur area posted a chilling video on social media hours after the incident, confessing to the killing and citing a personal grudge, police said on Saturday.

The shooting occurred on Friday at a cafe in Maujpur, where Faizan alias Fazzi (24) was shot multiple times and later declared dead at Guru Teg Bahadur Hospital.

Soon after the incident, a video surfaced on the social media handle 'moinqureshiii_', in which the accused claimed responsibility for the murder and said he shot Faizan because the latter had slapped him a few months earlier. Police said the authenticity of the video and the claims made in it are being verified.

In the video, the accused denied the involvement of any family members and ruled out a financial motive behind the crime.

"I killed Faizan over a personal grudge. My father had no role in this, nor did my family or friends have anything to do with it. I did not kill him on anyone's say-so, and there was no money involved. He had slapped me four months ago, so I took his life," he said in the video.

According to police, Faizan, a resident of Welcome, sustained fatal gunshot injuries to the head and chest. A crime team and Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) unit examined the spot and collected evidence. Officials said the cafe, which was operating illegally, has been sealed as part of the investigation.

However, the victim’s family alleged that the murder stemmed from a financial dispute. Faizan’s brother, Salman, claimed his sibling had lent around Rs 40,000 to the accused and that there had been prior altercations over repayment.

Police stated that a case has been registered under Section 103(1) (murder) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and relevant provisions of the Arms Act at the Welcome police station.

CCTV footage from the cafe and nearby areas is being examined to track the accused’s movements before and after the shooting. Multiple teams have been formed to conduct raids at suspected locations, while local informers have been activated to gather leads, police added.

Investigators are also questioning cafe staff and people present at the time of the incident to reconstruct the sequence of events leading to the killing.
