Chattanchal (Kasaragod): A young woman, who had been on the run after a complaint was filed against her for stealing money and gold from a man she met on Instagram, has been arrested. Sruthi Chandrasekharan (35), a resident of Chemnad in Kasaragod was apprehended in Udupi, Karnataka, by Melparamba SI and his team on Friday.

A case was registered following a complaint by a 30-year-old man from Poinachi, who reported that she had stolen Rs 1 lakh and a neck chain weighing 1 sovereign from him. Sruthi, who had been evading arrest, sought anticipatory bail from the Kasaragod District Sessions Court. However, her plea was rejected.

The Poinachi resident was deceived by Sruthi, who claimed to be an ISRO employee. Upon discovering the fraud and requesting the return of his money, she threatened to leverage her alleged connections with high-ranking police officers and others to file a case against him. The police have indicated that more details will be disclosed after thorough interrogation.
