A 19-year-old woman was allegedly gang-raped by five men in Chhattisgarh’s Korba district, with a driver attached to the police emergency response service Dial 112 among the accused. Two men have been detained, while police are searching for the remaining suspects.

Raipur: A 19-year-old woman was allegedly gang-raped by five men, one of whom was a driver attached to the police emergency response service Dial 112, in the Korba district, officials said on Saturday.
Police said that the incident occurred on the night of January 8 within the jurisdiction of Bankimongra Police Station. One of the accused, who was known to the survivor, reportedly contacted her and later took her to a deserted house in the Bankimongra area.

Police officials said that at the abandoned location, the Dial 112 vehicle driver and four other men allegedly sexually assaulted the woman one after another. After committing the crime, the accused fled the scene, leaving the victim unconscious at the spot.
Despite her condition, the woman later regained consciousness and managed to reach her residence. She then narrated the incident to her family members, who immediately took her to a medical college hospital for treatment. Following medical care, the family approached the police and lodged a complaint.

The case was initially registered as a zero FIR at Civil Lines Police Station on Friday. It was subsequently transferred to Bankimongra police station for further investigation, police said.
Korba Superintendent of Police Siddharth Tiwari confirmed that two accused, including the private driver employed with the Dial 112 emergency response service, have been taken into custody. Efforts are currently underway to identify and arrest the remaining three accused involved in the case.
Police said further investigation is in progress, and additional details will emerge as the probe advances.
