Three weeks into the police investigation into the Chalakudy beauty parlour ‘drug’ case, the prime suspect, Narayanadas, remains at large. A police team conducted a search at his residence in Bengaluru but failed to locate him. However, officers recovered a fake passport allegedly obtained by him in 2022. The Excise Crime Branch had filed a charge sheet against him in February last year.
What is the connection with Sheela Sunny’s son?
Police suspect that beauty parlour owner Sheela Sunny’s son, Sangeeth Sunny, had close ties with Narayanadas. Sheela Sunny was implicated in a fake drug case in 2023. Evidence retrieved from a raid at Narayanadas’ house in Eroor, Thrippunithura, early February reportedly strengthens this suspicion. CCTV footage from the premises purportedly shows Sangeeth leaving in a car with Narayanadas.
Despite being summoned for questioning, Sangeeth did not appear before the police. His phone was switched off for nearly two weeks, further complicating the investigation. A second notice was issued to him to appear on April 2, which was delivered to his wife at their Mattoor residence near Kalady. The couple had relocated from their family home in Nayarangadi, near Chalakudy, to Thrippunithura in mid-January.
Where is Sangeeth Sunny?
Police have no indication that Sangeeth has left the country. Since he is not officially listed as an accused, a travel ban cannot be imposed. He has previously worked in Mumbai and the Gulf. His prolonged absence has raised concerns among his family, particularly as he has not maintained contact with them since his mother’s arrest. Police also believe he may have attempted to negotiate a settlement in the case by reaching out to Sheela Sunny before disappearing.
