Bengaluru: A police constable was arrested Saturday on charges of sexual harassment under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act after a first-year pre-university student accused him of assault.
The accused officer, who was stationed at the R.T. Nagar police station, was reportedly on security duty at Freedom Park when the alleged incident took place.
The case came to light after a minor boy visited the Upparpet police station to report the harassment. Following the student's statement, a senior police officer confirmed that a First Information Report (FIR) was filed against the constable under various sections of the POCSO Act.
"An FIR has been registered against the constable under the sections of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act following the complaint by the minor boy," the officer said.
Authorities confirmed the constable was taken into custody shortly after the report was filed. An investigation is currently underway to determine the full circumstances of the encounter at the public protest site.
