Dehradun: The Special Investigation Team (SIT) has made its first arrest in the alleged misappropriation of donations and offerings at Uttarakhand's Badrinath Dham, detaining Badrinath-Kedarnath Temple Committee (BKTC) official Pramod Nautiyal as the probe into the high-profile case gathers pace.

As per sources, Nautiyal was taken into custody from Dehradun on the evening of July 12 and later brought to Badrinath for questioning and further legal proceedings.

The arrest comes days after the alleged irregularities in the counting of temple donations surfaced, prompting the state government to launch an investigation.

The controversy first came to light on July 2 after allegations of manipulation in the counting of offerings at the shrine.

Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami ordered an immediate probe, following which a Special Investigation Team was constituted to investigate the matter.

The BKTC's four-member inquiry panel is also expected to submit its report on Monday.

The report reportedly includes CCTV footage, written statements of employees, and findings related to discrepancies in the counting of donations and offerings.

Officials said the SIT is examining the role of other individuals linked to the case, with more action likely as the investigation progresses.

The issue gained widespread attention after a letter alleging misappropriation of temple donations by BKTC employees went viral on social media, triggering political criticism and concern among devotees.

The allegations sparked outrage across Uttarakhand, with priests, local stakeholders and opposition parties demanding accountability.
