Gurugram: The Gurugram Police have arrested a hospital technician accused of sexually assaulting a 46-year-old air hostess who was on a ventilator at Medanta Hospital in Gurugram.

The accused, identified as 25-year-old Deepak from Badhauli village in Bihar's Muzaffarpur district, was apprehended in Gurugram after evading authorities for four days.

According to the police, a Special Investigation Team (SIT) along with eight specialist units tracked the suspect using surveillance footage from over 800 CCTV cameras installed in and around the hospital. Investigators also questioned hospital personnel during the search operation.

The accused, who had been employed at the hospital for the past five months, was taken into custody following a complaint from the victim's family. He was working as a technician at the facility when the incident occurred.

The survivor, who was admitted to Medanta Hospital on April 5 for emergency care, was reportedly assaulted the following day, while still on a ventilator. She later told police that she was unable to resist due to her severely weakened state, and that two nurses were present during the incident but failed to intervene.

The assault came to light only after the woman confided in her husband following her discharge from the hospital on April 13. He subsequently lodged a police complaint.

A case was registered at Sadar Police Station on April 14. The following day, the hospital issued a statement acknowledging the complaint and said it was “fully cooperating with investigations conducted by the relevant authorities.”
