Sandeep Reddy Vanga's upcoming cop thriller 'Spirit', starring Prabhas and Triptii Dimri, has a new theatrical release date. The film, which was previously scheduled to arrive in cinemas on March 5, 2027, will now release worldwide on October 29, 2027, coinciding with the Diwali festive season.

The revised date sets up a potential box-office clash with the second instalment of Nitesh Tiwari's 'Ramayana', featuring Ranbir Kapoor as Rama, Sai Pallavi as Sita and Yash as Ravana. While 'Spirit' is scheduled to release on October 29, the makers of 'Ramayana' have announced a Diwali 2027 release window, with November 5 also reported as its release date.

The development brings two highly anticipated projects into competition during one of India's biggest theatrical periods. It also sets up an interesting contest involving Vanga and Triptii, who previously worked with Ranbir on the 2023 blockbuster 'Animal'.

Spirit release date: Sandeep Reddy Vanga shares new poster

Vanga announced the revised release date on X on Sunday, sharing a new poster featuring Prabhas in a rugged look. The actor sports a beard, dark sunglasses and a cap in the promotional image.

The filmmaker teased the reveal with the caption, “Check this out........#Spirit #InSpiritMode @TSeries @VangaPictures #IndiasBiggestSuperStar 29TH OCTOBER DIWALI 2027. Worldwide RELEASE DATE.”

Earlier, on New Year's Day, Vanga had unveiled the film's first look and confirmed March 5, 2027, as its original release date. That poster showed an injured Prabhas alongside Triptii in an intimate pose.

With the latest announcement, the film's release has been pushed back by nearly eight months from its previously confirmed March date. Vanga had also teased the new poster on X, writing, “Dear Prabhas Anna fans. I want to introduce a NEW POSTER, featuring the man behind the shades, with the NEW RELEASE date on it. Just few minutes...#Spirit #OneBadHabit #IndiasBiggestSuperStar.”

The project marks Vanga's first directorial venture since 'Animal', which featured Ranbir Kapoor in the lead role and emerged as the filmmaker's biggest commercial success, earning more than ₹900 crore worldwide.

Spirit vs Ramayana: A Diwali 2027 box-office clash

The new release date places 'Spirit' in the same festive window as 'Ramayana: Rise of a Legend', the two-part cinematic adaptation of the Indian epic directed by Nitesh Tiwari and produced by Namit Malhotra.

The second instalment of 'Ramayana' is scheduled for Diwali 2027, with November 5 reported as its release date. However, a definitive date has yet to be confirmed in the available announcements. If both films retain their announced schedules, they will compete for audiences during the festive period.

'Ramayana' features Ranbir as Rama, Sai Pallavi as Sita and Yash as Ravana. The ensemble cast also includes Sunny Deol as Hanuman, Arun Govil as Dasharatha, Lara Dutta as Kaikeyi, Rakul Preet Singh as Surpanakha, Kunal Kapoor as Indra and Ravi Dubey as Lakshman.

Vivek Oberoi, who plays the chief antagonist in 'Spirit', is also part of the first instalment of 'Ramayana', in which he portrays Vidyujthiva.

The ambitious 'Ramayana' project has been mounted on a reported budget of ₹4,000 crore across its two parts. With both films featuring prominent stars and high-profile filmmakers, their respective performances at the box office will be closely watched.

What is Spirit about?

'Spirit' stars Prabhas as the central character in what promotional material has suggested is a story about a disgraced police officer. The film also features Triptii Dimri, Vivek Oberoi, Kanchana and Aishwarya Desai in key roles.

Prakash Raj was previously associated with the project but is no longer part of the cast.

Vanga announced his collaboration with Prabhas in 2021, and production began in November 2025. The film is being produced by Bhushan Kumar, Krishan Kumar, Pranay Reddy Vanga and Prabhakar Reddy Vanga under T-Series and Bhadrakali Pictures.

The project reunites Vanga with T-Series following the success of 'Animal'. The 2023 film, starring Ranbir alongside Rashmika Mandanna, became a major box-office hit and established itself as Vanga's highest-grossing release.
