The simmering differences between veteran actors Naseeruddin Shah and Mishra have once again spilled into the public domain.

What began as a disagreement over celebrities speaking up on social and political issues has now turned into a fresh war of words, with Mishra publicly questioning Shah over the issues he chooses to comment on.

Shah recently joined a protest organised by the the Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) at Mumbai's Shivaji Park, where demonstrators demanded the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.

Several film industry personalities, including Vishal Dadlani, were also present at the protest.

Shah's participation did not go unnoticed. Mishra subsequently shared a video on social media, directly addressing his former associate and raising a series of questions about the veteran actor's public statements.

Mishra questions Naseeruddin Shah's selective activism

In his video, Mishra urged Shah to speak on several other issues that had recently grabbed headlines.

  1. He referred to the reported bravery of Smit Machchhar during flydubai Flight 1073 and questioned why Shah had not spoken about the incident.
  2. Mishra also brought up the developments at Lovely Professional University (LPU), asking Shah to express concern for the students amid allegations of violence and arson. His remarks appeared to question what he described as Shah's selective response to issues.
  3. The actor also took a sarcastic swipe at Shah's earlier comments about learning from students. Mishra questioned whether the students had suddenly become acting teachers, adding another layer to their ongoing public disagreement.

‘They needed food, not a poem’

Mishra further recalled an episode involving a student movement in Jharkhand. According to Mishra, when they had sought help from Shah during the protest, Shah had instead sent them a poem by a Pakistani poetess.

Taking a dig at the gesture, Mishra said the students needed basic necessities like food at the time, not a poem.

His latest remarks suggest that the disagreement between the two actors is far from over.

Mishra ended his video by making it clear that he intends to respond whenever Shah makes a public statement in the future.

Shahand Mishra's old disagreement resurfaces

The latest exchange comes against the backdrop of an earlier disagreement between the two actors.

Shah had previously criticised celebrities for staying silent during protests over the NEET examination in Delhi. Mishra later joined a student protest in Jharkhand.

Their latest confrontation has once again sparked attention because both actors are prominent figures in Indian theatre and cinema, known not only for their performances but also for their outspoken views on public issues.

With Mishra now promising to respond to Shah's future statements, their increasingly public war of words is likely to remain a talking point among film and theatre circles.
