‘All of Us Are Dead’ Season 2 has wrapped filming, but when will it premiere on Netflix? Here’s what we know about the expected release date, cast and story.

The wait for ‘All of Us Are Dead’ Season 2 is nearing its fifth year, with Netflix’s hit South Korean zombie thriller preparing to return with a new outbreak, familiar survivors and an expanded setting. Although the streaming platform has yet to announce a premiere date, production has wrapped, and details about the returning cast and the next chapter of the story have begun to emerge.
Renewed in June 2022, just months after its debut season became a global success, the series has faced a lengthy production timeline, with filming plans shifting from 2024 to 2025. The second season was also absent from Netflix’s Korean content line-up for 2026, strengthening expectations that the show could arrive in 2027.
Netflix has confirmed the return of several key cast members, alongside new additions, while the story is expected to move beyond the walls of Hyosan High School to Seoul. Here is everything to know about ‘All of Us Are Dead’ Season 2, including its expected release window, cast, storyline and production updates.
‘All of Us Are Dead’ Season 2: Expected Netflix release date
Netflix has not officially announced a release date for the second season of ‘All of Us Are Dead’. However, a 2027 premiere appears more likely based on the available production updates.
The series was not included in Netflix’s Korean slate for 2026, which was unveiled in January. Filming reportedly concluded in February 2026, leaving the production team with post-production work, including the visual effects required for a zombie series of this scale.
While speculation about a December 2026 release has circulated online, there is no official confirmation supporting that date. Some fan-maintained sources have suggested February 2027, but this remains unverified.
A release during the first quarter of 2027 is a reasonable expectation, although viewers will have to wait for Netflix to confirm the schedule. The first season premiered in January 2022, making a return around five years later a possibility.
The show is also expected to feature at Netflix Korea’s 10th anniversary festival in Seoul in late October 2026, where it is set to headline the ‘What Next?’ showcase. Further updates could emerge around the event.
What happened in ‘All of Us Are Dead’ Season 1?
The first season followed a group of students trapped inside Hyosan High School after a zombie outbreak spread through their city. With the school overrun by infected people and help difficult to reach, the teenagers were forced to find ways to survive while dealing with the loss of friends and the breakdown of their familiar world.
The series combined survival horror with stories of friendship, sacrifice and the consequences of human decisions. Its popularity quickly established it as one of Netflix’s most successful Korean productions.
According to Netflix’s viewing figures, the show accumulated 560.78 million hours watched during its first 28 days on the platform. Under the streaming service’s later 91-day measurement system, it recorded 679.3 million hours and 55.5 million views. It also continued attracting audiences in subsequent years, adding a reported 480.5 million viewing hours between 2023 and 2025.
The scale of its success helped secure a second season, which Netflix announced during Geeked Week on June 6, 2022.
What will happen in ‘All of Us Are Dead’ Season 2?
The second season is expected to expand the story beyond the high school environment, shifting the action towards Seoul and the lives of survivors attempting to rebuild their futures.
According to Netflix’s official premise, the crisis appears to have passed and everyday life seems to be returning to normal when a new zombie virus outbreak engulfs the South Korean capital.
Nam On-jo, who survived the original outbreak, is now a university student in Seoul. Still struggling with the trauma of the events at Hyosan High and the friends she lost, she finds herself facing another fight for survival when the infection spreads again.
The change in setting is expected to introduce a new group of university students, including characters named Ma-ru, Ju-ran and Jong-a. The story is also expected to explore the wider response to the outbreak, with Roh Jae-won playing a National Intelligence Service team leader.
The involvement of intelligence officials could bring greater attention to the government's handling of the virus and the mysterious half-infected survivors, commonly referred to as ‘halfbies’.
Director Lee Jae-kyu previously offered a glimpse of the sequel’s direction in an interview with Korean media in February 2022.
“If season 1 was about humans surviving, season 2 will be about zombies surviving.”
The comment has fuelled speculation that the new episodes could explore the infected and half-infected characters in greater depth, alongside the struggle of those who remain human.
Netflix has not officially confirmed the second season’s episode count or runtimes. Some fan-maintained sources list 12 episodes, matching the first season, but that figure should be treated as unconfirmed.
‘All of Us Are Dead’ Season 2 cast: Who is returning?
Netflix confirmed four returning leads and four new cast members in its July 2025 announcement. However, the precise details of some characters’ storylines remain under wraps.
Returning cast:
- Park Ji-hu as Nam On-jo: One of the original outbreak survivors, On-jo is now a university student trying to move forward from the events at Hyosan High.
- Yoon Chan-young as Lee Cheong-san: Cheong-san's return has been confirmed, although Netflix has not explained how his character reappears after the first season's dramatic ending.
- Cho Yi-hyun as Choi Nam-ra: The former class president is a halfbie who ended Season 1 on the school rooftop alongside other survivors with similar conditions.
- Lomon as Lee Su-hyeok: Su-hyeok, who developed feelings for Nam-ra in the first season, is also returning.
New cast members:
The new season introduces additional characters as the story moves into university life and the wider city.
- Kim Si-eun
- Roh Jae-won
- Yoon Ga-i
- Lee Min-jae
The new additions are expected to broaden the story beyond the original group of school students. Further character details and the roles played by the new cast members are yet to be fully revealed.
Is Lee Cheong-san alive in Season 2?
One of the biggest questions surrounding the sequel is the fate of Cheong-san, played by Yoon Chan-young.
The first season ended with the character apparently sacrificing himself after dragging Gwi-nam into a burning building. The scene left viewers uncertain about whether he had survived, particularly given the series' introduction of half-infected characters.
Netflix's confirmation of Chan-young's return has intensified speculation, but it does not establish whether Cheong-san is alive, has become a halfbie or will appear through flashbacks.
In 2022, Chan-young told Korean media that he did not know what would happen to his character, adding that “personally, I want him to live.”
Director Lee Jae-kyu also remained cautious when discussing the possibility of Cheong-san returning in an interview with WikiTree.
“We do have a plan, but it’s difficult to share it here,” he said, adding that if Cheong-san returned, “some people won’t accept it, and some will be happy about it.”
With the character's return now confirmed, his condition and role in the new outbreak remain among the sequel's biggest mysteries.
Who is directing ‘All of Us Are Dead’ Season 2?
Director Lee Jae-kyu and writer Chun Sung-il are returning for the second season, reuniting the creative team behind the original series.
Netflix Korea has indicated that the sequel will build on the first season by widening its world and developing its characters further. The shift from a school-based survival story to an outbreak affecting Seoul is expected to bring new challenges and a larger scale to the narrative.
The production has also had to accommodate extensive visual effects work, which is one reason the release date remains unconfirmed despite filming having wrapped.
