Kochi: More celebrities have come up lambasting the political motives of writer Jeyamohan in the wake of his controversial blog post. The post made numerous allegations against the people of Kerala and Malayalam movies. Writer-director B Unnikrishnan and actor Hareesh Peradi had already reacted against the statements mentioned in the blog post.
CPM Polit Bureau member MA Baby responded to the statement, saying that by defaming the movie Jayamohan intends to slander Kerala and its people as part of Sangh Parivar propaganda.
According to writer Unni R, Jeyamohan’s response is an extension of ‘The Kerala Story’, the biggest lie ever depicted about Kerala. He also added that Jeyamohan is prejudiced with the Brahmanical idea that people who drink are faulty.
Jeyamohan’s statements are coloured with communalism and hatred and his brain is in a foul state, said Tamil director Lenin Bharathi.
Jeyamohan, on the other hand, stands by his statements. In an interview with Mathrubhumi.com, Jeyamohan said that it is his duty to say that the characters in ‘Manjummel Boys’ are rogues. “I don’t think even a single line I wrote is wrong... I know about the role of intellectuals in creating an alcohol frenzy... I was not pointing out the alcohol addiction. The problem is that alcoholism is normalized and the idea is being passed on to other States like Tamil Nadu... I am not the one depicting Kerala as an alcohol hub. Recent Malayalam movies are presenting the same over and over to the Indian audience.” He also added that the movies made by some filmmakers from Ernakulam, who have adapted alcoholism as part of their lifestyle, started normalizing alcoholism through Malayalam movies they make.
