Malayalam cinema secured a series of accolades at the 71st National Film Awards announced on Friday, reflecting its consistent artistic and technical excellence in Indian cinema.

Best Actor in a Supporting Role: Vijayaraghavan shares honours

Veteran actor Vijayaraghavan was awarded Best Actor in a Supporting Role for his performance in Pookkaalam. He shared the Rajat Kamal and Rs. 2,00,000 prize with Muthupettai Somu Bhaskar for the Tamil film Parking. 

Best Actress in a Supporting Role: Urvashi recognised

Urvashi won the Best Actress in a Supporting Role for her role in Ullozhukku. She shared the Rajat Kamal and Rs. 2,00,000 award with Janki Bodiwala for the Gujarati film Vash.

Best Editing: Midhun Murali for Pookkaalam

Midhun Murali received the Best Editing award for his work on Pookkaalam. He was honoured with the Rajat Kamal and Rs. 2,00,000.

Best Production Design: 2018 – Everyone Is A Hero

The Malayalam survival drama 2018 – Everyone Is A Hero won Best Production Design, with Mohandas receiving the Rajat Kamal and Rs. 2,00,000 for his contribution.

Best Malayalam Film: Ullozhukku (Undercurrent)

Ullozhukku (Undercurrent) was adjudged the Best Malayalam Film, produced by Unnilazer Ventures Pvt Ltd and Macguffin Pictures, and directed by Christo Tomy. The film earned the Rajat Kamal and Rs. 2,00,000 each for both the director and producers.

Special Mention: Nekal – Chronicle of The Paddy Man

The Malayalam film Nekal – Chronicle of The Paddy Man, directed and produced by M K Ramadas, received a Special Mention from the jury.
