As Culture Minister Saji Cheriyan announced the Kerala State Film Awards (2022), a majority of the nominees had their eyes pinned on the television screens, awaiting the results patiently. However, a young girl, who clinched the award for the Best Child Artist (Female) was not even aware of the win and was on her way back from school like any other normal day.
Thanmaya Sol, who bagged the state film award for her heart touching performance in Sanal Kumar Sasidharan’s ‘Vazhakku’, could not believe the news of her achievement and indeed remained suspicious for a while. An adorable video of her reaction to the news is now making rounds on social media.
The video, shared by executive producer Jishnu Vijayan, shows Thanmaya in her school uniform and her disbelief when told about her victory. She believed the news only after seeing the announcement on a phone.
Vijayan wrote in the caption, “Our very own Kunji who returns from school as usual without realising that she had won the state award for best child actor.”
The award comprises a purse of Rs 50,000 and certificate. The jury was chaired by noted Bengali filmmaker and screenplay writer Gautam Ghosh. This year, the winners were selected from a pool of 154 movies and around 44 films made it into the final round.
