Kochi: The Association of Malayalam Movie Artists (AMMA) has come out in strong support of actress Gouri G Kishan following a body-shaming incident during a Tamil film press conference. AMMA president Shwetha Menon has firmly condemned the YouTuber’s derogatory remarks about Gouri’s weight, calling the act “shameful and unacceptable”.

Expressing her disappointment, Menon also criticised the lack of support shown by Gouri’s colleagues at the event, noting that they appeared to treat the offensive question as a joke. “It is painful and wrong to engage in body-shaming, no matter who does it, when, or where,” she said, emphasising that the incident should have been challenged immediately.
Shwetha also expressed skepticism over the apology issued by the YouTuber who made the body-shaming comments, describing it as “not genuine”. In a video message, the YouTuber has stated that his question had been misinterpreted and that there was no intention to offend the actress.

Commenting on his apology, Shwetha Menon said, "I don't feel that his statement was an apology... His body language said otherwise. We, all women, stand with Gouri Kishan- irrespective of any industry."

Through its official social media platforms, AMMA conveyed solidarity with Gouri, posting, “We understand your pain, Gouri. We strongly believe that body-shaming is wrong — irrespective of who does it, when or where.”

Shwetha assured that AMMA is taking steps to address the issue and reiterated the organisation’s commitment to fostering a more respectful environment within the film industry. “We will not tolerate such behaviour. Everyone deserves to be treated with dignity,” she added.
Gouri has received widespread support on social media, with actors, directors and technicians voicing solidarity.
