Kochi: Malayalam actor Asif Ali shared an emotional and candid reaction after receiving a Special Jury Mention at the 55th Kerala State Film Awards 2024, later describing the honour as a meaningful milestone in his acting career.
In conversation with Mathrubhumi, Asif Ali expressed his happiness and gratitude, saying, “I hoped to win the Best Actor award, as it is every actor’s dream. Though I felt some disappointment, this Special Jury Mention is a great recognition and encouragement for me to strive harder.” He added that being nominated alongside stalwarts like Mammootty was itself a huge achievement.
Asif Ali received the special mention for his performances in films like 'Kishkindha Kaandam' and 'Level Cross.' He acknowledged the ups and downs in his career but emphasised that this recognition renews his energy to keep pushing forward. “This is a reminder that I am on the right path,” he said.
The Kerala State Film Awards 2024 saw Mammootty winning the Best Actor trophy for his powerful role in 'Bramayugam,' marking his 12th state award and eighth in the best actor category. Asif Ali was among the strong contenders, including Vijay Raghavan, Tovino Thomas, and Soubin Shahir.
The awards, announced by Cultural Affairs Minister Saji Cherian, also honoured 'Manjummel Boys' as Best Film and Best Director, and Shamla Hamza as Best Actress for 'Feminichi Fathima.' The jury, led by veteran actor Prakash Raj, shortlisted 38 films from 128 submissions this year.
