In a significant push into the Indian market, Warner Bros. Pictures has entered a strategic partnership with Bhanushali Studios Limited (BSL) and JOAT Films, signing a five-film deal to produce Indian adaptations of its iconic titles.

The move, reported by Variety, aims to reimagine globally loved Warner Bros. films through a distinctly Indian creative lens, while maintaining the universal storytelling that defines the originals.

Warner Bros. Pictures will oversee worldwide distribution of these Indian remakes.

BSL, led by producer Vinod Bhanushali, has recently gained acclaim with Sirf Ek Bandaa Kaafi Hai, which swept five honours at the Filmfare OTT Awards, including best web original film. The studio is known for a strong mix of theatrical and streaming content, with a slate that includes Main Atal Hoon, Janhit Mein Jaari, Bhaiyya Ji, and more.

“India represents one of the world’s most vibrant and sophisticated film markets, with audiences who deeply appreciate authentic, locally rooted narratives,” said Denzil Dias, Vice President and Managing Director, India, Warner Bros. Pictures. “This partnership allows us to combine our storytelling heritage with exceptional local talent.”

Vinod Bhanushali added, “We’re incredibly excited to partner with Warner Bros. Pictures, a studio that has shaped cinematic history across generations. This collaboration is a unique opportunity to blend scale, emotion, and Indian culture for a global audience.”

Jack Nguyen, the industry veteran behind JOAT Films, brings three decades of production expertise and a first-look deal with Warner Bros. He is also attached to the long-gestating Korean remake of The Intern and will co-develop the Indian titles under this agreement.

“I’m excited to partner with BSL to adapt Warner Bros. Pictures titles for Indian audiences,” Nguyen said, noting that only carefully curated titles will be selected from the WB catalogue for this initiative.

Development on the first film is already underway, with announcements regarding creative teams and production timelines expected soon. This collaboration not only excites fans but also signals Warner Bros.' commitment to growing its global presence by investing in culturally relevant local content.
