
In a move no one saw coming, Vikrant Massey, known for his stellar performances and unmatched versatility, dropped a bombshell on Monday by announcing his retirement from acting. The beloved actor took to social media to share the emotional news, leaving fans and colleagues stunned.
"The last few years and beyond have been phenomenal. I thank each and every one of you for your indelible support. But as I move forward, I realise it’s time to recalibrate and go back home. As a Husband, Father & a Son. And also as an Actor. So, coming 2025, we would meet each other for one last time. Until time deems right. Last 2 movies and many a years of memories. Thank you again. For everything and everything in between. Forever indebted," Vikrant wrote.
The announcement has sparked an emotional wave across social media. Fans flooded the comments section with disbelief and heartfelt messages.
One fan wrote, “Why would you do that? There are hardly any actors like you. We need some good cinema.”
While another said, “We don't want to lose you! Take a break from movies but bollywood needs talented actors like you!!!.”
"Why you want to become the next imran khan of bollywood," wrote another heartbroken fan.
A career at its peak
The announcement comes at a high point in Vikrant’s career. Just last year, he wowed audiences in 12th Fail, delivering a performance that earned widespread acclaim. He then reprised his role as Rishu in Phir Aayi Hasseen Dillruba, taking his intensity to a whole new level.
His latest hit, The Sabarmati Report, has not only been a box-office success, collecting Rs 22 crore since its release but also received accolades from none other than Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah.
At the 55th International Film Festival of India (IFFI), where he was honoured as Personality of the Year, Vikrant reflected on his journey:
"I always try to work responsibly. Whether it is 12th Fail, Sector 36, or The Sabarmati Report, there is always an effort to entertain while being part of responsible cinema."
Vikrant completed his education from RD National College and made his acting debut with the series Dhoom Machaao Dhoom in 2007. He was then seen in shows such as Dharam Veer, Qubool Hai and Balika Vadhu.
It was in 2013, when he made his debut in films with Lootera starring Ranveer Singh and Sonakshi Sinha. The actor was then seen in film such as Dil Dhadakne Do, Half Girlfriend, A Death In The Gunj, Chhapaak, Dolly Kitty Aur Woh Chamakte Sitaare, Haseen Dilruba and Love Hostle among many others.
On the work front Vikrant still has two upcoming films Yaar Jigri and Aankhon Ki Gustaakhiyan as per reports. These will be his final projects before he steps away from the limelight in 2025.
Personal life
He married actress Sheetal Thakur in 2022 after they began dating on the sets of Broken and Beautiful. The couple welcomed their first child earlier this year.
He had taken to Instagram to share the happy news, which read: “07.02.2024 For we have become one. We are bursting with joy and love to announce the arrival of our son. Love, Sheetal and Vikrant."
Known for being fiercely private about his personal life, Vikrant now wants to prioritise his roles as a husband, father, and son.
