Actors Vijay Deverakonda and Rashmika Mandanna have found themselves at the centre of an online debate after a conversation about their marriage on ‘Koffee with Karan’ season 9 attracted criticism. Deverakonda’s remarks about how Mandanna repeatedly brought up marriage before he agreed have prompted some viewers to question whether the revelation was appropriate to share on television.

The couple, who married in an intimate ceremony in Udaipur, Rajasthan, on February 26, 2026, appeared on the show to discuss their relationship, careers and latest film, ‘Ranabaali’. While the conversation initially offered a glimpse into their personal lives, the discussion about their wedding soon became a talking point on social media, with several users criticising the actor’s comments.

What did Vijay Deverakonda and Rashmika Mandanna say about their marriage?

During the episode, host Karan Johar asked the actors about their marriage and how the decision to tie the knot came about. Mandanna explained that she was the one who initiated the conversation and that there had been no conventional proposal.

Recalling how she approached Deverakonda, the actress said she had told him, "Let’s get married,” to which he responded, "Okay, you ask me a hundred times.”

Mandanna also revealed that she had tried to persuade him to get married for nearly a year before he eventually agreed. Deverakonda, meanwhile, joked during the conversation, “I am not an a******”.

The exchange subsequently drew attention online, with some viewers interpreting the remarks as an unnecessary disclosure about the couple’s private relationship.

Why are netizens criticising Vijay Deverakonda?

Several social media users argued that publicly discussing how often Mandanna had asked him to marry her could make the actress feel embarrassed. Others questioned why the actor chose to share the detail on a television show.

One user wrote, "Vijay is about Vijay and Rashmika is about Vijay,” while another commented, “She asked him 100 times to marry her? Even if it is true, why is he revealing it publicly? He’s kind of humiliating her.”

Another person criticised the actor’s remarks, writing, “Bro saying his wife begged him for more than 100 times on camera, humiliating your partner like this is not cute”.

A fourth social media user brought the couple’s respective careers into the discussion, stating, “She's 100 times more popular and successful than him. Even then, bro thinks like he did a favour by marrying her, who's 7 years his junior at the peak of her career. He's a Walking red flag.”

A fifth user wrote, “Rashmika is good as an actor, but an utter flop in decision making! She did not have to reveal with everyone she begged VD to marry her year long!”

Other users also questioned whether the exchange was suitable for a light-hearted conversation about the couple’s relationship.

One person wrote, “Sorry, I didn't find it romantic or funny”, while another questioned the need to discuss the matter on television, commenting, “What need did he have to brag about this on Television? I swear Ranveer Singh and Vicky Kaushal are green forests.”

Vijay Deverakonda and Rashmika Mandanna’s relationship

Deverakonda and Mandanna first worked together on the Telugu film ‘Geetha Govindam’, released in 2018. Their on-screen pairing attracted considerable attention, and they later reunited for ‘Dear Comrade’ in 2019.

Although speculation about their relationship continued for years, the actors largely kept their personal lives away from public scrutiny. They eventually married on February 26, 2026, in a private destination wedding in Udaipur, Rajasthan.
