'Uyir' OTT release

The streaming platform announced the release date through its official social media handles.

Sharing the update, JioHotstar wrote: "Inspired by true events. Driven by justice. ‘Uyir’ on JioHotstar from August 4. Watch in Malayalam, Hindi, Tamil, Telugu & Kannada."

The multilingual release is expected to introduce the film to a broader audience after its theatrical release earlier this year.

What is 'Uyir' about?

Inspired by real-life incidents from the career of a police officer, ‘Uyir’ follows Ajeeb Rahman, a probationary police sub-inspector posted at the Dharmadam Police Station in Kannur.

His latest assignment begins with the discovery of a decomposed woman's body inside an abandoned well. What initially appears to be a straightforward investigation soon develops into a far more layered mystery.

Working alongside assistant officer Joy, Ajeeb identifies the victim as a local manual labourer named Shobha through a distinctive tattoo. Although the case initially points towards suicide, he becomes convinced that the circumstances surrounding her death do not add up.

As he follows the trail, the investigation leads to Shobha's estranged husband, Raju, and uncovers a web of interconnected events stretching across multiple states.

The case also forces Ajeeb to confront a deeply personal chapter from his own life. As the investigation progresses, his search for justice becomes intertwined with his own quest for answers and closure.
