Hollywood superstar Tom Cruise and Cuban-Spanish actress Ana de Armas have reportedly parted ways after less than nine months together, according to The Sun. The breakup comes as a surprise to fans, especially amid swirling rumours of their so-called “space wedding” and their plans to collaborate on upcoming film projects. 

Relationship runs its course

The ‘Mission: Impossible’ actor, 63, and the ‘Knives Out’ star, 37, were first linked in February this year and went public with their romance during the spring. However, sources close to the couple revealed that they recently decided to end their relationship amicably after realising they were “better off as friends.”

A source told The Sun, “Tom and Ana had a good time together but their time as a couple has run its course. They are going to remain good friends but they aren’t dating anymore. They just realised they weren’t going to go the distance and that they are better off as mates. The spark had gone between them but they still love each other’s company and they’ve both been really adult about it. She’s already been cast in his next film, so they will continue to work together.”

Romance in the spotlight

Cruise and de Armas made their relationship public when they were spotted holding hands during a romantic getaway in Vermont, United States. Their whirlwind romance saw them jetting to several destinations – from Madrid to London – often making headlines for their glamorous outings.

In April, Cruise reportedly whisked Ana away to Madrid in his private jet. The couple celebrated her 37th birthday in London, arriving by helicopter and sharing photos from what they described as “a fun night out on the town.” Ana also accompanied Cruise to David Beckham’s 50th birthday bash in May, and the two were seen together at an Oasis concert at Wembley Stadium. They were later photographed on a yacht trip in Spain.

Professional collaboration on hold

The couple were due to star together in a supernatural thriller titled ‘Deeper’ and were recently seen in London rehearsing for their roles. However, reports suggest that the film has been temporarily put on hold following their split.

Another project, tentatively titled ‘Pressure’, was also said to be in development with the two actors attached. Despite speculation, a source clarified that their professional relationship remains intact. “She’s already been cast in his next film, so they will continue to work together,” the insider confirmed.

Ana de Armas, best known for her performances in ‘No Time to Die’, ‘Blade Runner 2049’, and ‘Blonde’, was previously married to Spanish actor and model Marc Clotet from 2011 to 2013. She later dated actor Ben Affleck for ten months after meeting him on the set of ‘Deep Water’ in 2020.

Tom Cruise, meanwhile, has been married three times – to Mimi Rogers (1987-1990), Nicole Kidman (1990-2001), and Katie Holmes (2006-2012). His romance with de Armas marked his most publicised relationship since his divorce from Holmes.

Break-up amid wedding rumours

The timing of the split comes as a shock to fans, with earlier reports suggesting that Cruise and de Armas were considering a wedding — allegedly even one “in space.” While those rumours now appear far-fetched, sources insist that both stars remain on good terms and are handling the breakup with maturity.
