Thalapathy Vijay's box office reign continues, albeit with a slight hiccup. His latest film 'GOAT' (Greatest of All Time) saw a 43% drop in collections on its second day, a notable decline after a strong opening. Yet, Vijay's recent films have consistently demonstrated remarkable resilience, adapting to shifting audience preferences and market trends.

On Friday, the film collected Rs. 24.7 crore, taking its total collection of two days to over Rs. 68.7 crore. As the numbers unfold, it's clear that Vijay's star power remains a driving force. Let’s look at how his last releases fared at the box office.


‘Leo: Bloody Sweet’:

Directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj, the Vijay and Sanjay Dutt-starrer movie opened to Rs. 140 crore gross (worldwide). In India, its nett domestic collection on the opening day stood at Rs. 68.94 crore but saw a drop of 44% on the second day, minting Rs. 36 crore. Despite the downfall in collections, the film, which was made on a budget of Rs. 250-300 crore, recorded massive earning of Rs. 595-620.50 crore.


‘Varisu’:

Released in the year 2023, ‘Varisu’ clashed with the Ajith Kumar-led ‘Thunivu’ in theatres, making it one of the biggest box office clashes of the year. Upon its release, ‘Varisu’ had an edge over ‘Thunivu’ in terms of its collections which continued the next day as well. On the second day of its release, the gross collection of ‘Varisu’ was reported to be Rs. 40 crore, taking its two-day total to Rs. 80 crore. The film’s total earnings are reportedly around Rs. 290-310 crore.


‘Beast’: 

With Vijay and Pooja Hegde in the leading roles, ‘Beast’ is a comedy action-thriller helmed by Nelson Dilipkumar. Although it received a mixed response from the critics, the movie went on to become a commercial success, and one of the highest-grossing Tamil films of all times. It was also the second-fastest Tamil movie to cross the Rs. 100 crore mark. According to reports, its gross collections on its release day were over Rs. 80 crore (worldwide). On the second day, it collected Rs. 130 crore (gross, worldwide), entering the prestigious Rs. 100 crore club.


‘Master’:

Tamil cinema’s two power houses of acting - Vijay Joseph and Vijay Sethupathi, came together for the critically acclaimed film ‘Master,’ released in 2021. Released in Tamil, Hindi, Telugu, and Kannada languages, the movie’s opening day collections stood at Rs. 34.80 crore (gross), of which, Rs. 30.40 crore came alone from Tamil Nadu. It minted another Rs. 18.30 crore on the second day, taking its collection of two day to a little over Rs. 53 crore.
