Chennai: In a surprising move, the Tamil Nadu Film Producers Council (TFPC), a body of Tamil producers, is set to suspend the production of new films until the financial crisis is over.

The production process of new films will start only after the release of the films that have already completed production and are in progress. It is expected to take up to a year. The TFPC executive committee meeting this week will take the final decision on the matter.

TFPC believes that the financial crisis in the film industry is due to excessive production costs rather than the actors' compensation. They argue that actors' pay should be based on market value, and producers factor this into their negotiations. However, producers claim that the overall costs are inflated by additional expenses related to actors, aside from their pay.

Delays in completing the filming by directors also contribute to budget overruns. Producers want directors to be mindful of on-set expenses and ensure that the film stays within budget.

The production of films to be screened in theatres for a year has already been completed. The release of new films without screening these films will result in huge losses. That is why the producers have taken the stand to suspend the production of new films.

Vijay's 'G.O.A.T' is slated to release in September and Rajinikanth's 'Vettaiyan' in October. So it is expected that the Tamil film market will be active even without the new film.
