New Delhi: Actor Tabu graced the New York premiere of HBO's much-awaited series 'Dune: Prophecy' in a mesmerizing black ensemble crafted by celebrated designers Abu Jani and Sandeep Khosla. Known for their intricate blend of traditional Indian craftsmanship and modern couture, the designer duo revived their iconic 'Crushed Silk' collection for the special occasion. Tabu’s outfit, a unique adaptation of the Angarkha, was meticulously tailored from Khadi silk, showcasing a crushed texture achieved through a 38-year-old artisanal technique. The design used over fifty meters of silk, bringing a flawless mix of Indian heritage and contemporary style to the red carpet.

The designers expressed their pride in creating the custom look, sharing that it "elegantly embodies a fusion of Indian and Western sensibilities." This look, described as “a symphony of crushed silk," captured Tabu’s charisma and added a cultural richness to her red carpet appearance that captivated the audience.

Attending the premiere of 'Dune: Prophecy,' Tabu steps into a recurring role as Sister Francesca in this HBO series based on Frank Herbert's Dune: The Sisterhood. The series, set to premiere in November on JioCinema in India, takes place 10,000 years before the rise of Paul Atreides, following two Harkonnen sisters as they lay the foundations for the fabled Bene Gesserit order. In August, Tabu shared her enthusiasm about portraying Sister Francesca, saying she accepted the role “without batting an eyelid.”

This international project marks another feather in Tabu’s cap, alongside previous work with renowned directors such as Ang Lee in Life of Pi and Mira Nair in The Namesake. The cast of Dune: Prophecy also features celebrated actors like Emily Watson, Olivia Williams, and Travis Fimmel, among others.

Dune: Prophecy promises to expand the cinematic universe of Denis Villeneuve’s two-part Dune films, bringing new layers and intrigue to Herbert's visionary sci-fi world. PTI
