The legacy of legendary singer SP Balasubrahmanyam was celebrated in Kerala with the unveiling of his statue and memorial, as his son SPB Charan shared an emotional tribute.

Chennai: S P B Charan, son of legendary playback singer S P Balasubrahmanyam, has shared an emotional note after a statue of the iconic singer was unveiled and a memorial park inaugurated in Palakkad.
The tribute event, organised by SAMAM, honoured the late music legend with the unveiling of an S P Balasubrahmanyam statue and the inauguration of the S P B Memorial Park, drawing a large gathering of fans and prominent figures from the South Indian music industry.
SPB Charan shares a heartfelt tribute
Taking to Instagram, S P B Charan expressed gratitude and described the ceremony as a deeply emotional moment for the family.
“Legends came together… for one legend. Appa’s statue unveiling and SPB Memorial inauguration in Palakkad — a moment we will cherish forever. Some voices never fade… they become eternal,” he wrote.
He added that the event was not just a formal ceremony but a lasting memory for the family, highlighting the enduring legacy of S P Balasubrahmanyam in Indian music.
Music legends attend SPB memorial event
The statue of S P Balasubrahmanyam was unveiled by Oscar-winning composer M M Keeravani, while the memorial park was inaugurated by renowned singers K S Chithra and Hariharan.
Several leading playback singers, including Mano, Sujatha Mohan, Srinivas, Unni Menon and Madhu Balakrishnan, were also present at the event, underscoring the wide respect SPB commanded across the industry.
Vijay Yesudas lauded for organising event
SPB Charan extended special thanks to Vijay Yesudas, son of legendary singer K J Yesudas, for coordinating the tribute event and bringing together leading artists.
He also acknowledged the efforts of the organisers and sculptor behind the statue, noting the collective contribution that made the memorial possible.
SP Balasubrahmanyam’s legacy lives on
S P B Charan concluded his message by reflecting on his father’s enduring legacy, saying that while the family misses him every day, the overwhelming response at the event reaffirmed that the legendary singer will never be forgotten.
