New Delhi: The Kerala government has told the Supreme Court that before actor Siddique is glorified as a hero in history, the truth about him must be brought to light. The government warned that if this is not done, future generations might revere Siddique as an icon. It emphasized the need to reveal Siddique's true character, as per a report submitted to the Supreme Court, asking for the dismissal of his anticipatory bail plea in the rape case against him.

The report, filed by Narcotic Cell Assistant Commissioner Aji Chandran Nair, the investigating officer in the case, stated that Siddique has not cooperated with the investigation after being granted interim bail by the Supreme Court. The investigation is still in its preliminary stage, but significant evidence has already been gathered against the accused. The report also raised concerns that if anticipatory bail is granted, the complainant may withdraw her case.

Earlier, during a hearing, the Supreme Court had questioned why it took eight years for the complainant to file a rape case. The government’s report explained that the complainant was only 21 years old at the time of the incident and that Siddique was a powerful figure in the film industry during that period. It also mentioned that the complainant had shared a small part of her experience during the #MeToo movement on social media but later remained silent due to cyberattacks. The government has requested the court to consider the delay in filing the complaint with sympathy, given these circumstances.

The report, filed by Standing Counsel Nishe Rajan Shonkar, also emphasised the need for Siddique to be taken into custody until the investigation is complete and evidence from social media is collected. The Supreme Court will consider Siddique’s anticipatory bail plea on October 22.
