Kochi: Actor Shine Tom Chacko has admitted to using drugs, saying that he used them "for energy." This confession was made during his statement to the police as part of an ongoing investigation.
Although Shine voluntarily agreed for a medical examination, police suspect that he may have used an antidote to prevent drug traces from being detected. According to experts, the use of such antidotes can help evade a positive result in drug tests. Shine appeared before the police 48 hours after fleeing a hotel, which police believe gave him enough time to take measures to avoid detection.
Police are also planning a detailed investigation into the actor's financial dealings. Shine had stated that he used to give money to all his friends. He also informed the police that he had undergone treatment at a drug rehabilitation centre in Koothattukulam last year. Officials are expected to visit the centre and gather more information.
Shine Tom Chacko arrived at the Ernakulam North police station on Saturday morning for questioning in connection with drug use. He was interrogated for over three hours before being formally arrested.
Following a medical examination, the actor was released on bail. He has been instructed to appear again for further questioning on Tuesday.
Shine has been charged under Sections 27 and 29 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act and Section 238 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). According to the police, Shine admitted to past drug use and acknowledged his association with known drug dealers Sajeer and Taslima.
The actor allegedly fled from a private hotel during a police raid on Thursday. CCTV footage shows him running from the hotel premises and escaping on a motorcycle, though the owner of the bike remains unidentified.
Reports suggest that Shine checked into a five-star hotel in Kochi shortly after and left the premises around 3:30 a.m. Before that, he is said to have escaped from the first hotel by jumping from a window to the second floor and using the stairs to flee, surprising both police and excise officials.
Ahmed Murshad, a resident of Malappuram, is the second accused in the case. He was present in the hotel room with Shine at the time of the police inspection.
Complaint by actress Vincy Aloshious
Earlier in the week, actress Vincy Aloshious made a serious allegation against a fellow actor. Though she initially did not name anyone, she claimed the male actor had misbehaved with her and was seen spitting out a suspicious white powder.
Speaking to the media on Thursday, she confirmed filing a complaint with film authorities but did not explicitly name Shine Tom Chacko. The incident allegedly took place during the shooting of the film 'Soothravakyam.'
The police have collected blood, nail, and hair samples from Shine Tom Chacko for testing. While intoxication elements may not be detectable in blood after 24 hours, traces of drugs can remain in hair and nails for a much longer time. The results of these tests are expected to be crucial to the case.
