
As Salman Khan's latest film, 'Sikandar', hit cinema halls on Sunday, ahead of Eid, all eyes are on the box office numbers. According to industry tracker Sacnilk, the film earned Rs. 12.85 crore (and counting) upon its release, at the time of filing this report.
With a massive fan following and a reputation for delivering blockbuster hits, Salman's films are always highly anticipated. But how have his past five releases fared on their opening day? From 'Dabangg 3' to 'Tiger 3', we take a look at the first-day box office performance of Salman's recent films, setting the stage for 'Sikandar's' debut.
Dabangg 3
Released in December 2019, ‘Dabanng 3’ earned Rs. 24.50 crore on the first day of its release. Co-starring Sonakshi Sinha, Saiee Manjrekar, Sudeep, and Arbaaz Khan, among others, the action comedy is directed by Prabhu Deva, who also acted in the film. ‘Dabangg 3’s opening weekend collection stood at Rs. 78.75 crore. Made on a budget of Rs. 100 crore, its lifetime collection stands at Rs. 230 crore, of which Rs. 56.99 crore came from its overseas collection. The film, which saw Salman donning the role of Chubul Pandey for the third time, was originally shot in Hindi but was dubbed and released in Kannada, Tamil, and Telugu languages.
Radhe
After ‘Wanted’ and ‘Dabangg 3’, Salman and Prabhu returned for their third collaboration with ‘Radhe’, which was the latter’s 15th directorial film. It featured Disha Patani as the female protagonist while Randeep Hooda played the antagonist. Jointly produced by Salman, Sohail Khan, and Atul Agnihotri, ‘Radhe’ collected Rs. 4.75 crore. A total of Rs. 90 crore is said to have been spent on the film’s total budget, of which it earned only Rs. 18.33 crore, making it one of the weakest collections of a Salman Khan movie in recent times. It was initially slated to release in 2020 but was finally released in 2021, due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Antim: The Final Truth
Months after ‘Radhe’, Salman returned to the screens once again with ‘Antim: The Final Truth’, which hit cinema halls in November 2021. Co-starring his brother-in-law Aayush Sharma as the antagonist, Salman played the role of a Sikh police officer while Aayush was seen as a gangster. A Mahesh Manjrekar directorial, this Bollywood actioner collected roughly Rs. 4.35 to Rs. 4.5o crore on its opening day and Rs. 18.61 crore on its opening weekend. Its total box office collection stands at Rs. 59.11 crore, against a budget of Rs. 40 crore.
Kisi Ka Bhai Kisi Ki Jaan
A remake of 2014’s Tamil movie ‘Veeram’, ‘Kisi Ka Bhai Kisi Ki Jaan’ stars Salman and Pooja Hegde as the leading pair, alongside several actors in supporting roles, including Venkatesh Daggubati, Bhumika Chawla, Jagapathi Babu, Raghav Juyal, Shehnaz Gill, and many others. It also featured Vijendra Singh and Abhimanyu Singh in key roles. Released in April 2023, months after ‘Pathaan’ release, which saw Salman in a cameo, collected Rs. 25.38 crore on its opening day, which includes domestic and overseas collections. The total collection of the film at the box office stood at Rs. 182.44 crore.
Tiger 3
Reprising his role as RA&W agent Tiger, alongside Katrina Kaif as ISI agent Zoya, ‘Tiger 3’ is the biggest opener of Salman’s career so far. Upon its release in November 2023, ‘Tiger 3’ earned a whopping Rs. 44.50 crore in India on its opening day. Its worldwide collection on its debut day at the box office was Rs. 94 crore. The film also became the highest-grossing Diwali release. Directed by Maneesh Sharma, ‘Tiger 3’s overall collections stand at Rs 466.63 crore, and it was made on a budget of Rs. 300 crore.
