As the countdown begins for ‘L2: Empuraan,’ the sequel to ‘Lucifer,’ excitement has reached fever pitch. A newly released poster, shared by actor-director Prithviraj Sukumaran, has ignited speculation about a mysterious character, with fans debating whether the actor in the image is Hollywood star Rick Yune or Bollywood legend Aamir Khan.

The poster, revealed on March 24, showcases a man clad in black, his back turned to the camera, with a striking red dragon emblem behind him. While the actor’s face remains hidden, the image has set off a frenzy of guesses. "2 days to go. L2E in theatres worldwide from March 27," Prithviraj wrote alongside the post.

Internet in a frenzy over the mystery actor

Fans immediately swarmed the comment section with theories, each convinced they had cracked the mystery. Actress Malavika Menon confidently asserted that the man in the poster is Fahadh Faasil. However, many believe it could be Aamir Khan, pointing to similarities with his ‘Dhoom’ look. Others argue that the silhouette and stance resemble Rick Yune.

Rick Yune, best known for his roles as menacing villains in ‘Die Another Day’ (2002), ‘The Fast and the Furious’ (2001), and ‘Olympus Has Fallen’ (2013), has built a reputation for playing powerful antagonists. His signature action-thriller presence, combined with his martial arts background, makes him a strong contender for L2: Empuraan's villain. Fans have pointed out the similarities between the figure in the poster and Yune’s past roles, especially his character Zao from ‘Die Another Day,’ who also sported an intimidating stance and distinct wardrobe choices. “It’s not Aamir, it’s Rick Yune, confirmed!” one user wrote, while another stated, “Rick Yune it is. That stance screams action-thriller energy.”

On the other hand, Aamir Khan’s name has also emerged as a leading guess, with fans highlighting his resemblance to the figure in the poster. “It’s Aamir Khan, look at his ears,” one fan wrote. Others linked his possible involvement to his sister, Nikhat Khan Hegde, who has a confirmed role in ‘L2: Empuraan.’ Given Aamir’s history of taking on unexpected roles and his affinity for challenging characters, fans believe his presence in the film would be a major coup.

Some social media users even referenced previous reports suggesting that Breaking Bad actor Giancarlo Esposito might be playing the film’s antagonist. Given that the franchise revolves around Mohanlal’s character Khureshi Ab’raam and his global connections, fans believe it would make sense for the sequel to introduce an international villain.

AI weighs in on the debate

As speculation ran wild, an X (formerly Twitter) user turned to AI assistant Grok for insight. Grok’s response added another layer to the debate:
"The 'L2: Empuraan' poster shows a man, likely Mohanlal, from behind in a suit facing a dragon. Without a visible face, a major resemblance to Rick Yune is unlikely. The style may evoke Yune's action roles, but physical likeness is unclear."

Despite the whirlwind of speculation, there has been no official confirmation about the antagonist’s identity. However, with the film set to release worldwide on March 27, answers may arrive sooner rather than later.

Produced by Antony Perumbavoor, Lyca Productions, and Sree Gokulam Movies, ‘L2: Empuraan’ boasts a star-studded ensemble, including Mohanlal, Prithviraj Sukumaran, Manju Warrier, Tovino Thomas, and Indrajith Sukumaran. Written by Murali Gopy, with music by Deepak Dev and cinematography by Sujith Vaassudev, the film follows in the footsteps of ‘Lucifer,’ which became the first Malayalam film to surpass ₹200 crore in total revenue.
