Mumbai: Veteran actor Ramakant Dayama, known for his roles in films and web series such as Chak De! India, Scam 1992: The Harshad Mehta Story and Ram Setu, has died at the age of 71 after a prolonged illness, according to a family friend.

He had reportedly been unwell for several months, although the exact cause of death has not been disclosed. His last rites were performed on Tuesday.

A well-known character actor in the Indian film and television industry, Dayama was widely appreciated for his versatility and strong supporting performances across projects.

In Chak De! India, he portrayed an official associated with the Indian Hockey Federation, while in Scam 1992, he played Shantilal Mehta, the father of stockbroker Harshad Mehta.

He is survived by his wife, Dr Asha Naithani, and daughter Yashaswini Dayama, who has also made her mark in projects such as Dear Zindagi and Delhi Crime.
