Kozhikode: Malayalam actor and comedian Koottickal Jayachandran, accused in a POCSO case, is currently absconding, according to police. The Kasaba police informed that Jayachandran disappeared after a case was registered against him based on a complaint. Police efforts, including searches at his residence and the homes of friends and relatives, have so far yielded no information about his whereabouts. His mobile phone has been switched off as well.

A bail application was initially filed in the Kozhikode POCSO court during the ongoing investigation. However, the application was rejected on July 12. An anticipatory bail application was filed following the same in the High Court, which is scheduled for hearing next week.

A POCSO case was filed against the actor following a molestation complaint. The Kasaba police registered the case after the child's mother alleged that Jayachandran molested her four-year-old daughter. According to the complaint, Jayachandran exploited family disputes to torture the child.

Acting on instructions from the District Child Protection Unit, the police recorded the child's statement at her home.
